  • Payment for Lost Wages (TTD)

If you are unable to work because of you injury, or because of surgery or other treatment for your injury, you are entitled to payment for lost wages.  These payments are called Temporary Total Disability (TTD).  TTD benefits should be paid until the doctor says that you can return to work or when your treatment is concluded because your condition has reached “maximum medical improvement,” whichever occurs first.

Three things to keep in mind about TTD:

  1. TTD is most commonly calculated as 2/3 of your average weekly wage for the 13 weeks prior to your injury.
  2. TTD is supposed to be paid weekly.
  3. TTD is not taxable.

If your doctor clears you can perform light or modified duty work with certain restrictions and your employer offers you such work, you may not be eligible for TTD benefits.  If you return to light or modified duty at less than full pay, the workers’ compensation law requires that temporary partial disability benefits be paid to you.  The payments combined with your light duty pay should give you at least as much pay as your TTD rate.
